This project showcases one of Martin Model's most impressive industrial commissions — precision wooden patterns for steam locomotive driver wheels crafted for a large theme park in Southern California. Created by Gary Martin and the Martin Model team in Scappoose, Oregon, these patterns required exacting craftsmanship to meet the dimensional tolerances required for casting full-scale locomotive components.

Pilot Truck Wheel

In addition to the main driver wheels, Martin Model also produced patterns for the pilot truck wheels — the smaller front wheels that guide a steam locomotive into curves. Each pattern was crafted with the same precision and attention to detail as the full-size driver wheels.
