An instrument for copying a plane figure to a desired scale, consisting of styluses for tracing and copying mounted on four jointed rods in the form of a parallelogram with extended sides. The portion of the pantograph that does the engraving is either a diamond point stylus or a rotating cutter or “mill.”
From the late 1930s into the late 1970s, the pantograph engraving machine was the only type of engraving machine available on the market, thanks to the pantograph engraving machine inventors and founding fathers of Gravograph. The first major application of the pantograph engraving machine was engraving fountain pens for F.W. Woolworth Company.
The second major application for the pantograph engraving machine was for the New York City Board of Education during World War II, who needed plastic dog tags engraved for every child in New York City. After WWII, the pantograph engraving machines were sold to jewelry stores across the country, engraving items, such as pens, watches, lockets, etc.
Today, manual pantograph engraving machines are still used for many applications, including jewelry engraving, specialty items, electrical ID tags, dog tags, and much more.Just what you need for inscribing numbers and letters on your projects!
